Mercruiser 5.7 efi

I took the boat out on the weekend and when it was first started up there was a fair bit of blue smoke, there was also a smell of unburned fuel present for most of the time the engine was running. I've noticed this a few times in the past but it seemed more noticeable this time out. Any ideas??? The engine is a 5.7 efi Merc  (2000 model).

I thought so. Had it serviced at start of season but didn't change plugs. Could that be the issue?

For sure could be. Are you in one of those areas with lots lot low speed zones? Plugs could be fouled.  Easy to check and a cheap fix if it is the issue.

agree....pull the plugs and have a look. The color will tell a lot.

I'll try changing the plugs on weekend and see if it sorts the problem. Just hope it's as easy as that to fix and not a more serious problem
