Vortec type distributors

Having personally had the problem of the screw tabs breaking on the Vortec type distributor (flat top type), the usual repair is to replace the whole distributor @ $900 for Mercury.

Looks like there is a fix!  See attached.

    That is great! I am going to do cap and rotor this winter. Been sweating it after reading your posts on the $900 if you break the tab. Any words of advice on doing this in a manner to not break the tabs?

    The screw tabs break VERY easy. Do not use a ratchet wrench, use a screwdriver type handle for the torx bit.  Just go till snug, if you go further you will hear the dreaded crack sound.

    The screws for the rotor and the cap look the same but the one for the cap is a tiny bit bigger, so be sure to use the right one.
