Happy Thanksgiving to our southern neighbours this coming week. We had ours a month ago. Stats show that more people in the US travel at Thanksgiving than at Christmas. Safe travels. Love the idea of Thansgiving......HATE this whole "Black Friday" thing. Really? Can't believe people get sucked in by big retailers. As @raybo3 always says...Just sayin' !
I work in IT for a relatively large retail company. Our website is moderate at best in terms of sales most of the year, but on Black Friday and Cyber Monday sh@t goes crazy...it's like our superbowl.
What sucks is I'm pretty much forced to be on call or in the building on those days in case anything goes wrong...I'd rather be laying around digesting the turkey I ate.
In the end if everything runs smooth we look like rock stars...but if any little glitch happens it's IT's fault sales were down.
My wife bakes pies for thanksgiving to help with the purchase of Christmas presents for the kids... 134 pies this year!!! I am the official “Apple peeler” and “pie crust presser”. I would rather be sanding steps/tables... ugh!! Happy and safe Thanksgiving to all!!!
Probably didn’t even have to run your furnace with all that baking.
Bonus- we use our front porch(1st picture) as a refrigerator.... all the pumpkin pie and pecan pie chill in there while the apple/Apple crumb cools to room temperature in the house. She makes an amazing pie(homemade crust and all)... we even purchased a pie crust press a few years ago to save her cramping forearms and streamline the process.
No, but I could easily now on the CNC... we’ve owned the press for a few years now and I’ve always admired it. It’s made out of maple and plywood and a serious cam hinge... paid just under $1,000 for it. He makes different removable plate tops/bottoms for different style aluminum pie plates. He really has a great product... Bird Hill Enterprises.... even makes Empanada and mini pie presses.
I actually use one of these: It peels, slices and cores the apple.... sounds easy but doing (4)cases/320 apples really really sucks.... shoulder is killing me. Worth it though... kids get Christmas presents and we get to see all our friends when they pick up their pies between 2pm-7pm. Not sure if they just SAY that they're our friends because my wife bakes a mean pie... ah, who cares.... either way, HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!!
That is a crazy amount of pies! Heard that this is the most popular holiday for travel in the US. More than 50 million people travelling more than 80 miles??
