Just to conclude this issue , discovered the fried wiring at the starter , replaced wiring end and 90A fusible connection. Motor started once , but then when key is turned , no more klak-klak-klak , but now its KLAK and then silence.
guessed then that it was indeed the starter. Got a new one and installed it. Not too big a job , but you need to be patient.
motor starts like a champ now.
analysis : the starter motor was failing all along. Hence resistance builds up , fries the wiring , we fix the wiring thinking that is the problem when its actually the starter.
