just an FYI, though and for anyone else reading this thread:
this is one of the things i look at when considering buying a boat. not only these bolt heads, but those on the intake manifold, water pump/timing cover ect.... the transom plate grounding connections are obvious if they've been removed as an example... anything with a bolt head will tell you if it has been removed after factory install. if the paint is broken or if they're even slightly rounded, it's clear evidence 'someone has been in there', which may or may not mean good things. the fact your Y has stripped or rounded boltheads indicates either the previous owner hired a gorilla to torque everything down, or he didn't take care to do things right.... which means he may as well had hired a gorilla to do it all. it isn't a show stopper, but what the previous owner has to say about it when you question him about this 'indicator' may be a show stopper. -

The bolts to the out drive looked good, the bolts for the y did not look coraded or anything....so eventually I just cut the y pipe with a reciprocating saw so I could pull what was left through the key hole. I will post a series of pictures of my misadventures on the bellows thread I have going. I'm officially all torn apart now, putting my parts list together and hopefully can turn the top of my rachet to the tighten instead of loosen, that's always a good thing!
