Benefits of Membership in Canadian Powerboat and Sail Squadron?

Having completed some courses with the local Powerboat squadron I'm eligible for membership. I am aware that generally they support safe boating activities through educational programs etc, but otherwise, is it worthwhile? I'm not likely going to take any more courses, and I don't think our local chapter is particularly active on a social basis, and not sure I'd attend anyway. I guess the only reason I'm considering it is to support the sport generally.
Anybody here care to comment if they are/have been a member of either the Canadian or US Powerboat Squadron?

Thanks @mvn. Saw that. Was looking more for ideas on what members get out of it on a personal level i.e. sense of accomplishment, community etc.

If it's like the U.S. counterparts then the benefits are the training and the fellowship.  The Power Squadrons here go on rendezvous just like boat clubs.  There is also a public service aspect since they provide training to the public and participate in the Coast Guard vessel exam program.

Yep. That is one benefit. Although I already made my insurance deal for the year. I went ahead and signed up today. There was a half price deal for new members so I figured for $35 I'll try it for a year and see if it's worthwhile.

I don't know much about my local squadron, but judging from their web presence, the squadron seems very formal.  As in, uniforms and protocols.  I get enough of that in my professional life.  I admire their work, but I like my boating to be less "dress blues" and more "tuxedo t-shirt."
