Starboard thru hull in engine compartment

I purchased a 2005 312 fiesta vee in the fall. I have a thru hull on the starboard aft area of the engine compartment that has nothing connected to it, open to the outside. I was unable to find anything that had come off of it. It is just aft and above the waste tank, well above the water line. Is this normal, like a vent or do i need to cap it off?? Any suggestions?

What size is it?  1/2 in or larger?  If it was me i would cap it off if it wasn't in use.

A picture would be nice. Could it be a drain for a sink? I have a 342 and the sink drain in on the S/B. My guess is that it should be an overboard drain for "something"......

Definitely cap it, even though it's well above the waterline.  Suppose you accidentally run aground, and the boat is listing to starboard.  Next thing you know, your engine room is full of seawater, and your insurance adjuster is taking pictures to publish in Seaworthy Magazine as a "don't be this guy" example.

Sounds like a bilge pump outlet or sink outlet.  Any chance there is a sink in the cockpit?

Run water in the sink, the pan below the fridge, etc. and watch for it to collect in the bilge. That's the hose to reattach.
