Fuel Water Separator

On my 270FV The fuel/water separator is full and leaking fluid.  I'm wondering if there's some kind of regular maintenance I need perform on this unit.  Is there a filter cartridge that needs changing?   Also, where can I buy a new one as mine is looking  like it’s time to replace.

yes it separates the water out of the gas when its  full of water  it stops filtering that looks dangerous Id just change the whole set up you can probably find the same unit on line

Thanks @Alswagg.  Is it a problem that it is full and weeping?  Do you know the part no?  FYI - boat is still on blocks.

Reason it's probably leaking is it was full of water and froze over winter which pushed the seal out and it's weeping?

Yes, that's a problem, could lead to sinking your boat! Same thing happened to my AC strainer after 10 years of no replacement..

Yeah, pretty sure separator is original so it’s about 14 years old.  Seems like mostly water seaping out of it. No smell of gas.  Wondering if I just need to empty the bowl.

Yes, Plan is  to replace the strainer before launch.  Just want to understand how the it works exactly.  Water is in there to float the fuel to the top of the strainer, but where does the water come from?

Oh, this is just straining the seawater that cools the genny, now I get it.

There is an o ring inside the threaded portion of the strainer bowl. It falls out easy. If you had your genny winterized as it should, than it's possible they lost it when emptying the gunk out of it.

Was supposed to be winterized,but I would expect to the see pink antifreeze in the strainer so maybe was never done.  Great!  Just hope did not do any other damage.

Yes I agree pink or empty. Differently not fuel.

One last question: Anyone know what size fittings on the strainer?  Looked like 3/4 or an inch but I can’t get to the boat for a few days to verify.  Thanks for all the replies to my dumb questions.  Never had a boat with a genny or a/c before so some of this is new to me.
