Horn not working

I own a 2005 Rinker Captiva 192 and the horn is not working.  The previous owner put in a new horn and said it worked a few times and then quit.  Does the horn have a fuse somewhere between the horn itself and the rocker switch at the helm?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Joey

I doubt it has a fuse
remove horn and with a volt meter connected to neg/pos posts press horn button
    do you get 12v
    if so horn is bad.

I squirted WD-40 in it a few times over a week and it came back to life.

Hmm...must be spring.  Take out the horn and clean the "points".  Remember those?

Very common for them to "stick" from bits of corrosion inside, and often tapping on them while someone else presses the button, repeatedly gets it going again.  Had to do that successfully in front of the Coast Guard a few years back on my old boat.  Switch and wiring issues are less likely.

Even though horn is brand new?

If your getting 12 Volts at the horn, it's worth a try to tap it while someone pushes the button. Either way if it works or not, as long as you have 12V at the horn, I would replace it, otherwise it could quit again when you really need it, like signaling in the fog for, or when the Coast Gaurd, or other marine law enforcment board you for a saftey check!

My horn sounds like a dying, old duck. Even when new it was lame sounding. Any opinion on an upgrade?

If you have room behind the cover
you can always keep the cover and mount 12volt air horn inside
