Have a look on this website.  Find the one that looks like yours and it should show the replacement o-ring.

No marinas in the area have any?

They are all saying they have to order the cap to get the o ring. This search is for one of my buddies so that is the info he is relaying.

Nonsense.  The seals are most likely Buna N (nitrile) and are very common (see attached).  There might be an industrial seal place near you that can easily provide a replacement.  Or you could try an industrial supply place that deals with hydraulic stuff.

Find a Motion Industries or ATI branch, if you have some calipers to measure the ID and the o-ring dia you can get one cheap.  Most are Nitrile or Buna-N, if you can get Viton it is a better seal material.

I found them at my local ace hardware.  I replace them annually so I buy several at a time.

    Hello,
I had the same problem.  The rubber rings don't last long.  I found replacements at Home Hardware.  They don't last long though.  Change every year.  Disintegrated seals were the reason water was getting into my port tank.

Nitrile o-rings degrade from UV and gasoline over time. Add in the friction from removing/installing the gas cap and they wear out. Use some silicone plumbers grease on it to help. Or upgrade to Viton if you can find them.

Well, I have the perko part number for the o-ring only.  It is 054000099B.  Available through multiple websites.  For purchasing your own material o-ring, the size is 1-3/4 x 1-1/2 x 1/8 and the 'dash number' is -224.  Butyl-N is a buck or two, Viton is $2-4 from what I can find.  I just bought a bag of 10 from a guy in Vegas on eBay for $8.70 shipped to my house.  Figure I will keep a few spares in the toolbox for anyone else at the marina.  For that price, I figure go right for the Viton.  It was a PIA to find the size of the dang o-ring online.  No place that sold the Perko replacement listed the sizing, including the Perko folks.  Thanks to forums such as this, I tracked down a group that had a discussion going, and someone had measured and photographed the fill, so they figured it out from there.  I love this forum (and other forums) for the ability to help and be helped by so many people.

Viton is the way to go, about 2-3x the cost of nitrile is about right.
