Ship to Shore Radio Suggestions

hey guys - my brother in law recently got a new boat (290 Sundancer) and it desperately needs a new ship to shore radio as his is broken and needs replacing. It’s a Northstar radio but they were bought out by Simrad. I am not familiar with and haven’t done a lot of research on them so I turn to you guys who have a lot of experience for suggestions. I am looking for a replacement radio that we can get him for Father’s Day. It needs to have the speaker in the hand held part of the radio as his head unit is mounted inside his dash cluster and also a plug kit so the hand held part can be plugged in from the cockpit. Probably describing it wrong but any help and suggestions of a couple different models would be very much appreciated. Looking for a quality option but not a break the bank. Maybe in the $200-$300 range. Thanks guys!

You can get a nice hand held VHF for not a lot of money too. I carry both personally.

I have a Standard Horizon GX1700. I think it was $240 new but there was a $40 rebate so about $200. Had it for 3 years and no complaints

So I just had a thought...when you go to replace the radio, do they all have the same antenna connection or will the antenna need to be changed as well?

Yes, they all have the same antenna connection.

I went with a Standard Horizon when I upgraded so I could have AIS.  The plotter shows AIS vessels when connected to an AIS reciever (like this).  Nice to have when there are freighters in your neighborhood.  I wanna say it has a speaker in the mic as well.  GX2200 would be the current version.
