Leak Around Transom

I have a leak around my transom assembly on my port engine, about an inch of water per hour.  My mechanic looked for the source of the leak while the boat was in the water and thinks it might be the exhaust horn.  I was hoping for a bellows problem but after taking the drive off, the bellows were fine.  Anyone have this problem before?  Looks like he will have to remove the engine to fix.  Ouch.

We don't know much about your boat, age etc. I have a transom leak under repair and when I started, one of the more common issues s a rotten transom. I'm mot sure I get that other than having a leak left unfixed eventually would keep the transom wet and eventually set up the rot. What I think I found on mine was the main transom seal was leaking- it is a spongy round seal and only has about 25 lbs of torque on the transom bolts. I replaced all my bellows thinking that was the problem. So between banging the heck out of the asy to get the gimbal bearing out and the pressure to get the steering pins out I caused that seal to flatten more and leak worse. To confirm, I put some silicone around the gimbal on the out side of the transom, backed into the water and had no leaks so I knew it was leaking around the main seal.

2011 360, so hopefully not a problem with the transom.  Are you saying that Rinker transoms have wood in them, not solid fibreglass?  Thanks.

Yes they have wood

Yes, wood or compsites/balsa core etc. Fiberglass alone is not appropriate. It would crack and split.

There is a fitting for the outdrive oil that stupidly is made of plastic they break a lot may want to see if it broke off
