AC Drain Hose

My coworkers AC drain hose on his 03 270 drains into the bilge. Has anyone ever rerouted the hose and use a through hull fitting? It doesn't make sense to have water in the bilge all the time.

Mine drains into the bilge too.  Rerouting to shower sump or adding in a separate one in the bilge is on my to do list.  I kinda don't want to drill a hole in the boat for a new thru-hull.

Are you talking AC condensation or raw water?  My raw water goes to a through hull.  I would be nervous having it go to the bilge.  If the bilge pumps ever failed your AC would sink your boat....theoretically.

I dont think i have ever used mine enough to produce any noticeable condensation.

You could install a second bildge pump and leave it draining into the bildge, you can never have too many bildge pumps!!

the AC should condensate into a pan, and the pan should have a fitting and a hose to route the water . Depending on the boat, if the hose goes to a "thru-hull", it will still empty into the bilge, should the pan ever overflow for what any reason ...(blockage in the hose, rusted out pan... etc)
The idea is NOT to drill holes in your boat, hence your friends boat will drain into the bilge.
On my boat, my rear AC goes into the bilge, but the front AC goes into a pan and then out the side, with the bilge as a gravity back-up.
There is no wrong way...just different ways.
