Dometic ac question

I am helping a buddy change out his 10k
btu dometic with a 16k btu unit. 10k is original and took a crap.
anway 16k is the same brand dometic vortex I believe. It came with a data cable that we didn’t use.
so here it goes.
we pull the old one out
put the new one in
wire everything in and plug the data cable in.
flick the ac breaker and light on the main board comes on but the keypad is dead?
question number one
Are all dometic controls the same?
are all data or communication cables identical?
should I swap out a he cable?
thanks

The cables are likely different. I know my old Dometic cable was a crossover cable (which ironically means the wires passed straight through, different pattern of cables on either end. TX to RX and RX to TX (crossed over).

My new system isn't Dometic, but the cable it came with is a typical CAT5e cable. IT doesn't cross over - both ends are identical. A network cable tester will make it real easy to determine, and you can re-terminate the cable you have with the proper pattern and it should work.

What I found out is his old unit uses a passport interface and this unit requires a passport I/0 model
so he needs a new control pad

I was going to say the old control pad and new controller boards are not compatible.
