342 Flooring update with CoolTeak

JPCJPC Member Posts: 41 ✭✭
We spent the day updating the flooring on the swimplatform and in the cockpit. Gone are the plain white non-skid and crappy tan carpet.

Very impressed with the Coolteak by Plasdeck. Looks great, feels good underfoot and not hot at all in the midday sun.

You did a great job. I have the older stuff that the previous owner put on and it is hot under the sun.  Would love to swap it out for this.

I was on the newer Rinker 310 a few weeks ago that had this on it.  I was really impressed.  It is very soft on the feet, felt very nice, non-slip more than anything I've felt & definitely stayed cool in the sun.  Congrats on the new decking!  Looks nice!

Handy, it was about $3,500 for templating, decking, glue, tools and shipping.

Looks nice @JPC. My MarineMat project is near completion - a few more snaps in the cockpit to do then stick down the swim platform (PSA, no 3rd party adhesives needed). Half the price. I'll be posting in a thread soon with photos.

Icoultha, we looked at Marinemat and it did not have the durability I was looking for as it is a foam product.   We chose Plasdeck due to the material and durability with our dogs claws.   He loves leaping off the platform and we felt a foam product would tear apart.   The Plasdeck is extremely durable and seemed to be the best option for us.

Understand and agree, no claws here - not even shoes! We looked at various materials and vendors and given what were after in final product and our needs MarineMat was the best for us -  as the PlasDeck is for you. It does look good.

I can agree on the marinmat durability. This is my second season with it and it's been holding up ok. My son dragged our little dog across it the other day and she put a nice single claw mark about 4 inches long into it. I was not happy. Otherwise under normal circumstances it has been good.

What do you think so far about stains?  My cockpit floor and swim platform have seen occasional appearances from red wine (not mine, I'm a Scotch guy), blood (usually mine) and greasy footprints.

Looks great. It's easy to wash too, just bring in the garden hose and spread some soap down and scrub, spray the whole thing and you are clean just like that, dries quick. Getting rid of the carpets is a great move.

Just be careful not to drop anything hard/on it. It isn't indestructible.

Already had a coupe of spills on the marine mat - white wine (no big deal, it’s not red) then today some balsamic vinegarette - nearly black color - eek!  In both cases snapped out and walked to dock, hosed off, didn’t need to rub or use soap. Seems very resilient and you can wash with a soft brush and soap if needed.

Also it dries much quicker than the carpet, rafted up with 6 others on a poker run yesterday and a sudden storm cell hit and before I got the sides back up we got pretty wet. A wipe down after and before long all was dry vs the carpet of the past that would take much longer to dry.

The marinemat cleans great. I usually get most out with just a hose and a brush. But if not 303 all purpose cleaner has taken up everything else.

So far so good - after our first weekend with the Plasdeck Cool teak I am quite impressed.  We made a 45 mile run down to the casino and had a lot of people on checking out the new flooring.  A few minor items spilt but nothing like red wine.  Anything on the floor wiped up and it did well with the dogs claws.  We are very happy with our flooring choice so far.

I will be exploring this avenue next season. I put SeaDek in my 280 in Spring of 2016 and my dog has destroyed the swim platform with his nails. Ugh

Installed PlasDeck a couple years ago. Called silver/navy. Turned out really well with the navy hull. Tough as nails.

Actually not long after the install, one of the marina techs dragged an anchor across the PlasDeck when juggling boats around. Pretty good score & smear of the material.

PlasDeck has a youtube repair video that I followed.
Sand the material with the grain - then use a heat gun lightly to take the fuzz down. Worked perfect. The color & seams run all the way through the material.

Also, never had any permanent spill stains whatsoever.

@mattie did you source directly from PlasDeck?  I think I'm going to do it.  Platinum Gray with white lines.

That's cool. The Platinum Gray must be a new color. Like it with the white lines.

Kinda sourced it directly....had my dealer do the process. They scribed out the template & sent off to PlasDECK. (no Rinker 276 templates on file)
Dealer did the install as well. They do a ton of boats so I didn't want to mess up the process & do it myself.

Turned out well. The silver/blue lines looked great on the Rinker navy/white hull.
We had zero issues with it - other than it was a bit hot in the sun.
The boat sits beside our current boat & the deck still looks good. I'm guessing we installed it in 2014-15 can't remember.

You won't have any heat issues with that platinum. Used Starbrite deck cleaner on it with no problems at all. Just scrub & hose it off.

Buddy of mine just had his Four Winns H260 completely done with PlasDECK. Haven't seen it yet. I'll post some pics when I do.

Thanks for the great info @mattie !

I'm torn.  I don't want to fuss with making a template, but PlasDeck is recommending that I buy a mylar version of the 350 template they have and then mark it up to make tweaks as needed.  Why bother posting the template if it's not a good fit?!

Dang all those pictures look great...I did all my seating and carpeting for $3500.00 which I thought a deal. The carpet is not cheap...but 7 grand would have been a lot to bite off on but wow, that looks really nice.
  • mattiemattie Member Posts: 1,281 ✭✭✭✭
    @YYZRC
Don’t think the Mylar template would be too big of a deal.
You seem pretty detailed in your work. Prob not a big deal.
Imagine PlasDECK is just doing some CYA for themselves. On our 276 ~ I remember seeing some 276s with a wet locker on the swim platform & some without.

It would be disastrous for PlasDECK to assume their template on file would be exact for all 350’s for all model years..
