Chesapeake Bay Notice to mariners

If you aren't aware earlier in the week they had to open the flood gates on the Conowingo Dam and it has made travel on the Chesapeake and its tributaries pretty interesting.  Sandy Point is a mess, Ego Alley in Annapolis is full of debris.  So be careful out there folks.

I'm heading that way next weekend.  The Potomac has been like that all summer, so we're used to it.  Still, there will be a fatigue factor trying to maintain a sharp watch for the entire trip.

We get debris from the entire non-tidal Potomac (which runs another couple hundred miles into West Virginia), as well as the Shenandoah.  Unlike the Susquehanna, there are no major dams that stop debris. 

The high water seems to have dislodged every single branch, tree and stump along both shores, and sent them all directly to my marina.

I have to say, this was one of the worst I've seen, at least in a long while. But, it has cleared up now.

The rain might actually let up here in Charleston this weekend. We've had nearly 10" already in August at my home meter, and July was the wettest since I installed the station:
