Marine Mat Upgrade

When we bought our 2014 310 EC a couple of months ago, one of the things lacking was the teak-look Marine Mat.

Well, we decided to splurge and ordered an OEM snap-in set directly from Rinker.

Arrived last week - and here are some before and after shots. I only put in a few strategically placed snaps on the perimeter to keep it in place like a puzzle.

Nice. We just did ours, awaiting the last 2 pieces to finish the swim deck - needed adjustments - and then I’ll post pictures.

Okay, thought I'd share, more to come next week or so after the last 2 pieces come for the swim platform. Snap-in except for the 3 step pieces that are stuck on as will be the platform. Note I made the helm hatch one piece as trying to do the 2 (upside down U and square shape) made the lines funky and I also extended the walkway sections to the step - carpet is usually short of the door pin catch in the deck. Had to take off door and add a few washers to the top of the upright so the bottom of the door cleared the pad when swung in.

@icoultha - Looks great! Did you have any difficulties installing the snaps? I had a tough time due to the thickness of the foam Marine Mat - hard to line the two pieces up to compress perfectly. A lot harder than when I did canvas.

Thanks guys, very happy with it and wait until you see the final swim platform. @TonyG13 - yes, my $20 hand held tool I use for odd canvas snap repairs wouldn’t do the job and wasn’t paying $200+ for the heavy duty tool. So I drilled a 1/8” hole through then with a larger bit worked out the backside a tad to thin it a little so the snap fitted together better. Pushing the male part through I found that holding down the female part and pressing both onto a hard surface and using a pointed punch, it flared it enough to stay there then with a flat end punch, tapped it down even all round for a tight fit. They seem to stay and sit well.

@randy56 - just the way it came out to match the teak.

Hello Tony, it looks amazing. I hope you don’t mind me askin, but how much they charged you for the mats? I’m thinking of doing the same on my yacht. Cheers

@joaopaulogrilo -- I got mine directly from Rinker...

    https://rinkerboatsparts.com/item/310ex310-marine-mat

With tax and shipping it was just shy of $2K

You can search for your specific model number to see if they offer it.

Not sure where Ian -- @icoultha -- got his done. Maybe he can answer that.

I went directly to Marine Mat based on a recommendation here in the forum. I made up the template as I have a 2003 310 so they don’t have the template, worked with Adam there on the production side and Jennifer on pricing. Great service, especially from Adam working out the kinks with templates and test pieces but in the end came out great. I started this in winter and so got a better “winter” price but was told the typical price would be up around the $1700-1800 mark - less than half of SeaDek for the same job.

@joaopaulogrilo - what model do your have? If they don’t have it making the template is the way to go. A buddy of mine is doing the same now with his 06 Bayliner

That’s fantastic! I have a 2005 Rinker 342 Fiesta Vee. The little details are amazing, like the little side steps, etc...

Funny, the step up through the front I did first and not until I saw a picture of someone else’s with the side step, I forgot about them. Seeing as I had some test sheets to send back I made 2 new templates for the side steps from a sheet of paper and added a couple of photos.

Finally - got to install the last 2 pieces for the swim platform. I already had the center and installed but due to the need to align correctly with the backwash ports, the 2 side pieces were not right so had new test sheets and final pieces made. They are now down, there is a slight color difference but with sun and water I expect these to even out soon.

Yeah, the weed is an issue where we are we control with a harvester, the green duckweed floating on top is more a PITA than anything.

Good job. Are the snaps secure to the foam, such that they won't tear off with some pulling, or do you have to handle with care?

What is the backing of the snap in floor?  Is it all black foam?

Thanks @MarkB, we're very happy with the whole thing. The snaps are well secured, the key is to make sure they are not close to the edge and like all snaps, pry them off at the snap, don't drag the material and they'll last well. As I described above, working out the best way to attach them was key and none have come loose for a few weeks now.

The backing is white rippled rubber, pic below. Allows for any water that comes in to have a chance to flow away. The few places I know where water comes in - below radar arch down the steps - I simply lift and wipe dry. One thing I like about this stuff is so easy to clean - lift, put on dock, soap and water with brush and hose off. Dries pretty quickly.
