Generator shuts down with CO-2 error

Was at the dock this morning and ran my 5e genny for it's weekly 20 minute run. Learned from this forum I should do that since I don't use it much otherwise. Had the reverse cycle heater on and battery charger for a load. After 10 minutes it shut down with the carbon monoxide fault. Blowers were running, but canvas was all closed up except back door panel. Boat tied to dock with genny exhaust facing dock, light wind blowing boat toward dock (presumably blowing exhaust further from boat. I checked it out, found nothing obvious, restarted and ran it with engine hatch open. A couple of minutes later it shut down again with same error code.
In that scenario is it likely to be sucking in its own exhaust?
if truly a leak, is there a common spot this genny tends to leak from I should check 1st. And do you look fo leaks using soapy water on joints?
it's a 10 year old boat with about 109 hrs on genny.
thanks for any help.
