These crazy French guys(link below) broke the glass ceiling a few years ago with this wild 40mph+ hydrofoil boat run in 6' seas which led to these new Americas Cup foil boats. Can't wait for the trickle down to the consumer level. Brass balls.

Yes, I've been reading about the America's Cup. The course looks pretty cool!  Len (or anyone else), if you are there make sure to post some great pictures!  I'm not a sailboater, but love seeing those!  We saw the Volvo race ones a couple times when they came thru here. :)>-

The US Navy has been playing with these hulls for years.  They have their limitations too, but less boat in the water = faster and less energy used.

America's Cup used to be great: one design boats that made the captian/crew the difference.  Now it's about speed and who can use more super computers and advanced materials, very cool in its own right though.

Sail driven foil boats are something altogether different than powerboats. With the center of effort so high balance is tenuous at best. The Cup boats struggle with de-powering the rigid wing sails Awesome stuff.

The audio from the hydo ptere boat includes only wind, and the groan of super stressed rigging while sailing at 50mph with a double reefed main in 5-6' seas. Crazy Frenchmen ;-)

Change is moving in fits and spurts. Incredible stuff. My express cruiser needs a set of these ;)
