Exhaust System Question

Anyone know or have an idea what caused the white stains on the exhaust pipe in the attached pic?  Note that the other pic from same engine shows no stains.  I'm guessing it has something to do with a leak but there are no leaks, also the boat has been in fresh water all its life, so not salt.  Boat is a 2011 360.  Thank you.

Peel those boots back.....

Hairdryer on the boot will make it nice and loose to open. I’d probably open, inspect, clean up the stains and then re tighten and see if it happens again

You definitely should check the hose clamps.  I had the same happen two years ago on one engine. I replaced my hose clamps and tightened them up, cleaned it all up.  Now it's all good.

I would check for corrosion if they have not been replaced...just sayin...mine looked great until I pulled the boots off, what a shock. The clamps may not have loosened, the metal may be corroding!

Some folks use dishwashing soap to lubricate and then help seal those boots... I've done it; works good. It also does what you see... Agree with above... Bands have service life, though easy to forget... The oval end will always leak first been my experience. And if you use soap to lubricate and seal, you'll catch it quicker...

Thank you gentlemen.  Another project.  I've heard that the clamps where the screws are should be offset 180 degrees or at least a bit.  Mine aren't.  Is this a problem?

Just a quick update in case someone has a similar problem.  It turned out that I had 3 broken clamps, everything else is fine.  Dodged a bullet.

One more item to the season startup checklist. This is what I love about this forum, you learn so much without even asking.

Those clamps should always be replaced when removing/replacing the boots.
