Remember all that have served and serving. I've been studying Canada, and it's history here is a small part.
After Britain declared war on Germany in 1939, Canada followed suit and World War II began. Canadian troops were involved in many war-changing battles including the Battle of Normandy. In the end, the Allies defeated Germany and Canada paid a price. Nearly 50,000 Canadians gave their lives, with thousands wounded.
A positive by-product of World War II was that it ended any lingering effects of the Great Depression in Canada. To support the needs of the war, workers produced raw materials and manufactured goods in record quantities. Canada was again on an economic roll, and it would never look back.

And for the most part we are brought up not to be boastful, but to let our actions and deeds speak. This isn't a knock to our US friends, you're just better at self promotion than we are. I also find that US news and even the study of history is more American based whereas ours certainly focuses on Canada, but usually also highlights world affairs including the US. So the media in the US largely ignores Canada and you don't get to hear what's going on. Some of this might be caused by us being a member of the British Commonwealth so we've largely tied our history and politics to that of our fellow Commonwealth countries, hence our early involvement in both the Great War and WW II.
None of this matters though with Remembrance Day coming to both sides of the border and much of Europe it is a time to reflect on the sacrifice made by those that served and our common belief in freedom from oppression.
A timely topic indeed.
