Tachometer

My boat is a 2004 RINKER 342. Both of my tachometers are not working correctly, both show wrong RPM at different times. If you tap on tach they will start to work correct but soon after they will act up. Any one have any luck getting them repaired or should I just replace them? Second question is hour meter info stored in tach or come from engine ECM?

First - typical Faria gauge issue. You can get them rebuilt if it bugs you that much. I just put up with it for now. 

Both - tach stores but in ECM also and a more accurate record of hours per RPM range.

Yep, this problem is widespread for older Faria tachs.  The repair isn't really cost-effective.  For most people, it's ignore or replace.

I did both my tachs 2 years ago for 125 each plus shipping they still work fine and the hours stayed correct on both tachs. The ECM has a different number but close.

Dave, I sent both of mine in for rebuild several years ago, they sent me two brand new tachs. that worked for about a year and then started acting up again. I went with vessel view and now the tachs are obsolete.

There is a pot in the back of them. See where its set and then take a small screwdriver and move the pot back and forth many times then put it back to the setting it was at. This works very well for me..........

Agree on vessel view, I’m still on analog tachs but when the time comes will go to vessel view and will remove analog gauges

Vessel view is owesome. It's the best upgrade that I have done. This past season I noticed that my port engine water pressure had dropped 6 psi. Not enough to affect operating temperature but I know that in the spring that pump is going to be rebuilt.
