Replacing 3 step with 4 step ladder

Greetings,

I have the usual 3 step ladder on the FV310 that sits nicely into the platform and I'd like to change to a 4 step so the Admiral can get back on board easier being of shorter stature and still recovering from a severe leg fracture and surgery last year. Challenge is the inset and getting one that will fit, I've taken measurements and looking at them online but wary buying one that appears to be close but maybe not once I get it in my hand. Stealing this snapshot from another post, anyone successfully put in (without mods) a 4 step unit that fits properly?

I have not done it, but it looks like you have a couple options.  Either find one that the first step (step closest to platform) is shorter, so that it hugs the insert when folded, allowing that 4th step to fit.  Or, you may be able to take the original ladder, move it back slightly and add another step (not sure if that is possible).  I think the measurement of the 4 slid together is what you will really need.  I think where it bolts thru can be moved forward or aft a bit.  I know that probably doesn't help much, but just putting my thoughts out there.

Thanks @Dream_Inn and generally my idea but those I've ready the specs on suggest there may no be quite enough room so was hoping someone had done it with success. Good to have my idea - if it can be done - validated.

It looks like another step can be added to the space available. I would bring your original ladder to a metal shop/fabricator. See if they can add another sleeve and step to what’s there. The brackets might have to be widened also. You’ll be surprised at what a good fabricator can come up with.

Got a 4-step on our Four Winns. It also has a nice outward arch to it. Tried to look up the part number couldn't find it. Take a look at Great Lakes Skipper. There are 100+ various swim ladders on their website.

Thanks @mattie there are plenty out there but key is the fit in the Rinker platform cutout. There’s a good chance this his different to yours.

Fit it mine just fine.. was way to expensive though!! I just emailed the lady at rinker that everyone talks to..she priced out the right part and so on..

I've thought about getting one of the slide out types and mounting it under the swim platform or just using mine with some kind of rubber holder. My platform is a good ways off the water and the 3 step makes it hard to get out of the water, especially when the top step is out of the water.

Here is another 4 step, mounts like yours. better measurements. $62 Man looks like summer fun to me there. That is very high out of the water compared to the 270.

I believe mine was 15 inches wide.. can measure later when I'm at the boat

From the outside wall of the hinge pieces mine is 16 inches wide.
