Drain Plug

I got a new Brass Garboard Drain plug and when I put it in half the threading is still showing.  It is tight.  Is this normal?

It should just be the standard 1/2" NPT garboard plug, not sure why so much thread would showing.  I'd take it back out and clean the threads both on plug and on boat.  You could also use Teflon tape to help it go in better.  Maybe a picture would help.

I happen to have mine handy.  You can see where the thread sealer is showing where the plug stops. And that's with torquing it in there as tight as I can. Almost half the plug.

It's a tapered thread. Total thread length should be about 3/4". Thread engagement of plug should be about 1/2". So looks about right.
