What is this?

GopackGopack Member Posts: 4
First time boat owner and trying to learn stuff in the engine compartment. I’ve been watching a lot of videos but I can’t find anything on this yet. It’s in the back corner with the yellow cap on it, its some kinda pump but what?

Trim tab hydraulic pump or outdrive lift pump would be my guess.

That’s the outdrive pump. You should have a separate pump for your tabs if you have them.

No maintenance other than routine inspections and fluid level checks.

Welcome to the forum!  I have a couple recommendations for you as a new boater.  During your first season, plan on visiting your engine room regularly so you can learn what your boat's "normal" looks like.  Also, I'd get some bilge cleaner or degreaser and give that engine room a major scrub-down.  It seems the previous owner wasn't exactly careful about keeping the ER clean.

Are you trailering, or storing the boat in the water?  Salt water, or fresh?

Thanks for the welcome, I’m trailering and yes it’s gonna get a big scrub down. The boat has been fresh water..
