Thru Hull Question

This is my genset thru hull.  A few questions:

1.  Does anyone else have this same setup?
2.  Was this done by the factory?
3.  From what I have read, this is less than ideal, there is no backing plate.
4.  Has anyone ever had an issue with this type of installation?
5.  Has anyone reworked/repaired/replaced this type of installation and how?

    It appears my 2008 330 lacks a backing plate too.

    Looks like a regular mushroom still thru hull with a seacock with a backing plate flange to me.  I've got the mushroom style for my ac and head.  I would say unless there is a real concern of someone stepping on it or putting excessive force I'd leave it alone if it ain't leaking

    skennelly, I agree with you, but it just looks sloppy.  Makes me think they didn't have the right parts or the right labor practice when the thru hulls were installed.  I'm really happy with Rinker but this is just one little thing.  Thanks.

    Perfect, no.  Typical for production express cruisers, yes.  It checks most of the boxes.  Ball valve, cable of correct gauge and color, flexible hose attached to the fitting.

    what type of backing plate ? is one necessary ?

    A backing plate goes between the hull and the flange.  If something heavy falls and hits the thru-hull, or there's some other accidental load on the fitting, the backing plate distributes the load and reduces the chance of breaking the fitting.  

    You could remove the fitting and add a backing plate like this:
