Shift cable adjustement

So, sitting here wrapping things up with the boat on the street. As far as I know when I first started the boat, the drive shafts were not turning. Once everything was running and warmed up I wanted to put into forward and Reverse to make sure it was going in and out of gear ok. Seemed to but I obviously was not paying attention to rotation....in neuteral it is is in gear... Outer shaft is turning clockwise....when I put it forward, neuteral and reverse it continues the same...it's a new shift cable....I would think if it is adjustment by putting it in forward or reverse at some point it would go into neutral or at least rotate  the other way indicating adjustment required?

    If I remember right I set mine with a gauge with the drive off you should be able to hear it go in and out of gear

    I did not have the cable hooked up on the inside when I put the out drive on and I'm afraid I pushed the cable end in and it did not go into the jaws....

    So I pulled the outdrive off took me about 20 minutes. I inspected the gear shift position and it's pushed all the way in. So it looks like it was not assembled correctly and when I put the boat in forward gear it pushed it forward and put it in forward I suppose and then it did not engage after that. So stupid easy fix.

    So, was able to pull the roller/shifter forward to re assemble but it seems to be in gear? Should I have the sifter hadle in forward at this point? I only recall being I neutral doing this now several times...

    You may as well put a Ford emblem on that boat Ras. Lol

    Handle should stay in neutral position .

    So, I pulled the shift assembly back out but it still seems to be in gear...I tried to push it back in a little to get to netural  but it went all the way...in netural it should free spin both ways? I've been wrestling with the exhaust boot all friggin day....

    I could put a Dodge emblem on it then anyone would understand my problem. There is so much of this that could be designed better...like a Dodge.

    Ok, so for inquiring minds, when you pull the out drive off as it pulls out that roller asy for the cable end it must put it in gear.  When you put the drive on it must push it back to neutral. so I started it up goes in the forward and reverse easily so everything must be fine. Couldn't be any better if it were a Ford.

    They have 2 million trucks with oil leaks. Its too bad that Ras didn't put a RAM 3500 emblem on his boat. It would have never leaked and he would be using it this weekend.

    Props back on which was a very good feeling! Kind of like when your working on your ram, again, and you put the wheels back on and get ready for the test drive...

    Yes pull the drive out comes the assembly and it goes in gear and the little latches comes up. Glad to hear it's all good.

    Ras, all jokes aside but you need to tap out on your boat. It has you whipped for 2 years now. OMG! Kind of like working on a 6.4 or a 6.0.

    Thanks @reneechris14....I like working on , well, everything I seem to have and like learning about stuff. Handy go back on ignore until he buys a boat. I have had 20 years of life in the last two years but won't go into all that.
