Anyone know where to get a replacement sliding latch like this for a 270?

Perko $60.00 west marine has them. Make sure you get the  right measurements so the bolt patten matches up.

The old open the engine compartment and forget the latch trick...should buy stock in that company...

Ras, you hit it!  Mad at myself.  Found it on line for $36 bucks. They make two sizes so you have to be careful.

Once again I have to wonder why they ever got rid of the "lift and open" hinge like on my 2000 270. No latch to break. Door swings both ways. Can even lift the hatch with the door closed and it clears. I expect it was a cost issue.

I also have a steel one now.  Dreading the day when I forget to open the door and lift the hatch.  Will the steel latch or the door break.  Being very careful.

I don't close my door if your dumb enough to fall out I'm not turning around to get you. And if you close the door its a $50 dollar fine.

Try a wooden dowel with a screw.  Much cheaper and easy to replace

I was going to do that but figured it would not look good right at the entrance of the boat.....similar latch from my shed door looks a little better,....will have to paint it or something.....

I used a label maker to make a reminder to "Check Door" that is above my switch.

Measure the base and give EBay a try. Can't recall where I got mine but the quality and price were very good.

I like a silly project now and then...I think I'll wire in a microswitch that locks out the engine hatch switch when the door is anything but fully open and on the door latch/catch.
My other thought was to relocate the switch to the battery switch box. I'd think it highly improbably you'd open that hatch sitting there with the door latched.  Added bonus is to free up a switch position at the helm for another accessory.

@Formulaben - welcome to the forum.  You should definitely do it, and post details here.  We welcome functional silliness.
