Pontoons are getting to be insane.

If you had 230K to spend on a boat, would it be a pontoon? Granted. it is a very nice pontoon.

    I don't understand it. If I had even 70K in my pocket I wouldn't spend it on a pontoon. Maybe a used pontoon and a used cruiser.

    Pontoon is a great boat for a day on the lake with dogs and the kids.  Beaching is great.  Tow a 27 footer with a 1995 half ton truck or suv.

    That is an  awesome poontoon- I've seen them at shows for a hundred that took my breath away- but no way for that kind of money would it go to a  boat like that.....even an off shore boat like handy says-not my kind of boat. Heck, I don't fish! And even those boats your paying for motors not the hull. To each their own but that boat looks like it is for some one with a lot of money but knows zip about boats..dude with a boat..

    2 summers ago i saw one headed out to sombrero reef.    Obviously a rental.  I was still impressed it made it that far off shore, wasn't a smooth as glass day at all.  The crew appeard all smiles and oblivious it was doing something it wasn't intended to do.

    There is NO WAYS I would spend quarter million $$ on that floating beer can.  That is insane. How do they justify that cost?? No cabin?? Crazy.

    Pontoons are one of the top choice day boats on the local lakes in my area.  Usually helmed by the southern gentleman and his family.  You can usually identify them by the flying Confederate and American flags as well as hear the country music blasting on the radios.  Not my crowd but generally an easy going friendly bunch.


    There is no enforcement of lights on boats aside from not running search/spot/fog lights constantly and proper nav/all round light, this means those pontoons cruise the lake with led accent lights all up and down the sides.  They flash, change colors and blink enough to need epileptic seizure warnings.  At times it can make them hard to judge their speed after dark, its also easy to confuse a group of them as campers in one of the many camp grounds so it can throw off your bearings.

    I am sure you can have fun with that. Heck, I can have fun with a canoe. I just wouldn't spend 200K + on a pontoon. That money will buy a really nice express cruiser. Later I might go onto Boat Trader and see what a budget of 230K can buy.

    I have a pontoon love it.  Take The whole fam damly for a day. They have there place. 4.3 V6 runs 30mph, Grill out, few beers, Shade for us older one's, Grand kids jumping off the back, Ski, tube.
     But those kind will not pass up a gas station. And the sales tax they pay is more than i have in mine.

    A buddy of mine lost his 33' cruiser for a season to make major repairs, so he bought a toon as a temporary ride.  Umm, he ditched the toon as soon as his cruiser was un-busted.

    No way i would spend more than 20 k on a pontoon, If I had an extra 220k It would be a biggest cruiser I could get.

    I agree but there are some people who have a boat budget of $230,000 and end up choosing a decked out pontoon over other choices. That's what I can't understand.

    Some people dont have our love of dropping anchor and sleeping on the boat. 


    If i had 200k to blow it would be on low income housing aka trailer park.  

    The boat i buy with the new found cash flow would be named "Slum Lord"

    I'd also love a low income marina.  Just enough live aboards allowed so that you dont need a security team to keep thieves at bay and non live aboards honest. 

    If i had 7 mil laying around id have bought the 7 mile marina and done both at the same time...and added commercial rentals to the list.
