looking at pulling the engine on my boat due to rusted/corroded leaking sump can it be done while in the water ie leaving the DPH dive on or is it not possible to do while in the water ?

Its possible but hard with all the motion while in the water

my boat is moored to a floating pontoon its quite stable i think i only need to slide the engine off the drive/bell housing, then lift enough to remove the sump/oil pan and replace with new one and gasket. I could build a platform to rig up a lift above the engine to limmit movement, allowing the engine to slide forward and up once clear of the shaft, my fear is that the shaft thats supported in the drive bellhousing will move with the engine or is this fixed via bearing into to the bellhousing and is there a sliding fitment on the engine side to allow the engine to move forward may be a drive plate with splines somewhat like a cluct in a car ? many thanks in advance for any information, parts and info like this is very hard to get in the UK
