Volvo engines - check your oil hose connectors!

I posted this over a year ago to old forum, now to new one to inform you.

I have Volvo 5.0l gxie 270hp engine on 250FV.
In summer 2012 we were underway when engine suddenly made an odd sound and dropped to idle speed. At the same time I smell oil and turned the engine off.
When I raised the engine hatch, it looked like this:

The hose, which brings oil from the oil pan up to oil filter seen here, was broken.
The connector was detached from the hose and all the oil were pumped to the engine room:

So, if you have Volvo engine, check the oil hose connectors before they blow up. It wasn't a nice job to clean almost 5 liters of oil from the engine room and bilge.
Luckily the engine had automatic fail mode to stall the engine when oil pressure dropped. It would have been a bigger problem without this feature..

    It's also lucky it didn't catch on fire. Hot oil spraying on a hot motor is never good.  Thanks for the tip, I have the same boat and will check mine.

    Yup!!! I had the same issue in 2012. Starboard oil line blew off remote filter. Caught mine via my Garmin infra red camera and shut her down before I lost pressure. Still blew oil up at hatch and umbrella down over every inch of space! What a F'ing mess. I took both engines hose lines and pulled the factory clamps off and double hose clamped everything. Been good since. ...

    What to look for! If the metal nipple on the hose is more than an 1/8 inch from the remote metal hose base. Looks like a nut... then it is slowly slipping down and will blow off in time.... if you pull down hard enough the hose slips off. Take pliers and crush the nipple off. Slip hose back on with two good sea clamps.
