I have a small crack on my Mercruiser 350 Max MPI distribution housing. Is this hard to replace? I am going to replace them on both engines. Looks like each are around $231.
Do you mean your distributor cap or your water distribution housing? I am thinking you mean water distribution housing, that is super easy to change, 5 minute job. Good you are doing both. On my 342 I had one crack at the plug thread when I launched so I just replaced that one.... two weeks later the other cracked in the same place. These are made of nylon which dries out over time and it was time!
I am going to debate the 5 min estimate. It took me close to 2 hrs to replace my port engine. It really is going to depend on how easily it is for you to your arms down to the forward corner of your engines. I am 6 ft tall and was just barely able to get down there. After not being touched for years the hoses were tough to get off also. Make sure you get the right one for your engine. There are a few different designs. Some that have lines going to them to open and drain the water and some that don't. I would verify by ordering with your engines serial number.
Fair enough, my 342 was an 06 so I had a lot of room between the engines and the bulkhead firewall, 2+ feet, also my boat was freshwater and hoses in good shape, bolts easy to un screw. Maybe it was 10 min, but it was nothing.
Yea mine was more like aero. Sorry David, they extended the engine room on the 342 for 2004 models I believe. Moved the transom back for faster planing and more space in the engine room.

I’m with you here David, if you have to do this from above as there’s no room to get in there, it’s not 5 mins on a 2003 310...
