New Canvas

I am in the process of doing a custom made enclosure  to the boat and I have the option of removing the stayput bungees in the aft canvas of the boat for regular stainless steal snap, so I would like to get some of your opinions about what I should do.

    @oscar1 - You know we both have the same boat. I would keep the bungees. It is soooo much easier than snaps. When it gets colder and the canvas shrinks you'll have a heck of a time trying to pull it tight to get it to snap. I think they put the bungees there for a reason. It keeps a constant tension whether the canvas is cold or hot - and makes it easy to pull, loop, and close. My 2 cents...

    Another vote here for the bungee.  Although, it's never cold in Miami.

    The bungees are so ugly. I’ve been contemplating a flap of canvas (like a skirt) over the bungees so they’re not visible.

    I had snaps on the first soft top i ran on my fj40.  If I didnt put the side back down after a warm day they wouldnt fit back the next morning.  This made for some cold morning work commutes.  It was hand made in Pakistan, great quality other than sub par zippers which due to political and logistical issues were the best he could get his hands on.

    I got a new top made in the USA by a guy who stitched them in his garage with straps that tightened with a D ring like a belt.  I no longer had issues with putting the top sides back down on cold mornings.   

    I was told by the maker of the 2nd top that he could get me canvas from Germany they use on high end sports cars that didn't expand or contract, the price made the straps a no brainer.  I cant remember the name of the company but if you are set on snaps that's what I would look into.    It was water proof and uv rated as expected for something used in auto manufacturing.

    The 330 is my 1st boat with bungees.  I would never purposely go back.

    Another benefit:  if I accidentally open my engine hatch with a bungee still attached at the transom, the bungee will pop off without tearing the canvas.  It's like a built-in safety release.

    I have snaps and am contemplating replacing them with bungies.  At least on the back.

    @oscar1 - Your current canvas looks to be in pretty decent shape. What are you changing? Color?

    Looks good. Good call on the bungees. I had snaps on my 310 and then bungees on the 342 and 390. Bungees are a huge upgrade.

    Not familiar with them at all...but the snaps are god awful. Do they hold well enough while underway? I don't ever recall seeing them on any boats around me.
