Do you guys use an anchor swivel? I’m thinking about using one, any particular one you recommend?

I read that it's best to get one with circular shackles, not flat-sided shackles.  You want to make sure that the swivel can only be pulled in tension -- never with a bending load.  For example, if the anchor gets wedged between some rocks, and the boat swings off to one side, you don't want a bending load on the swivel.

    So, something like this:

Eye to Eye Swivel Stainless Steel

NOT like this (which is like what I currently have):

Stainless Steel Heavy-Duty Jaw Jaw Swivels

I think it’s a perfect time to add one since I pulled out and cleaned my rode in the fall. It’s laid in there nice and neat also.

I have this one. It works flawlessly and it's the only one I'd trust..

@J3ff , how are the screws prevented from backing out on that swivel? Are you able to safely wire or cotter pin them?

The factory swivel that came on the boat (similar to pic above) was side loaded at some point & opened the tangs up. It was pretty much destroyed & I had to cut the chain to remove.

Can’t side load a Mantus swivel.

Was just looking out my kitchen window and said to myself, man that boat would look really good with a polished stainless anchor! What do you guys think? Is it worth the bling upgrade?

I’ve considered powder coating it. Stainless is big $$ for a good one.

I was thinking just to go with the same style Lewmar delta in stainless 22# . Not too bad on the price.

Does your wife share your same addiction?  That's a pretty awesome admiral to be pushing for boat bling like a stainless anchor.

Also your trees look bare! Wash your boat or vehicle and its green in an hour.

@PickleRick , she does share the same addiction but mostly for boating accessories for herself 😂.

I wish my admiral spent money on hair and nails rather than bringing every 4 legged creature she finds home with her.

The price we pay per year for flea treatment could pay for a summer slip.

We added the mantus swivel last season.  Verdict is still out on whether it reduced twisting, but it did add another spot that tends to collect weeds when pulling up.  We often anchor in weedy area.  It is well engineered though.
