Mag 350 mpi power steering pump

Lot's of noise on my engine.  Took off the belt and the noise went away...so I started tugging on pulley's.  The only pulley that has play in it is the power steering.  I guess that means I need to replace the entire pump right?

Suggestions on where to source a new pump?  A little research says it's the same pump as a GM truck you just have to swap the reservoir and pressure regulator?

Thoughts?

    I'm not sure on your mag but on the older v belt style power assist models you could use a signaw pump, reuse your resevrior as well.  As you said the valve needs to be replaced.  That being said I think it's @rasbury maybe who replaced his and left the valve in the automobile pump and has had no issues. If it wasn't him it was another member on here.  Id still switch the valve if internet research doesn't indicate that many others have done so with no issues.  

    Maybe he can chime in with what part number he used.

    I did it...several times. Yes the pump is basically a saginaw pump. Pay attention to the low pressure output pipe and match it up and the shaft and pully type. Most are pressed on and you will need a special tool to get the pully on and off. Buying it is around $80. You can borrow them for free from an autoparts store but they are beat up sometimes. Dont go cheap. The threads will strip.   A fully assembled oem pump will be upwards of $650. You can do it yourself for under $100. Def swap out the pressure regulator. Def pay attention to the washers and spacers or you will keep destroying belts. I would also recomend doing the high pressure hose while your at it. It is very likely it needs it or will after taking it off and on.

    I got a rebuild one for my 5.0 and it’s been fine, just swap the reservoir. I got mine via eBay, quick look now and there’s a number of them with the res. As @davidbrooks said watch the tool selection - I bought one from HF and it was useless, took it back. Used one from Autozone on their tool rental program and worked like a charm.

    I just tool mine to the auto parts..they swapped the pulley and installed, no issues since..

    @rasbury - my thoughts too.  What pump did you buy as a replacement?  Just a Saginaw style automotive pump or Merc?

    @skennelly it was a saginaw...I think for a truck...a really older one but then our boat is an 06...

    Yeah my understanding is you have to swap the reservoir over to the new and switch out the pressure valve.

    Make sure you get the o rings also.

    Can the resovoir and pump be installed if the pulley is on the pump?  Or do you need to install the pulley after the pump is installed?

    Did with mine, if you got it out with it all intact it should go back the same way.

    Pulley has to come off the old one. The process doesnt matter when. The resevoir can be swapped with the pulley on.
