Transom-mounted TotalScan Transducer Location

I've been on the fence about where exactly to mount this Simrad TotalScan transducer on the Transom. The original transducer is on the port side, so it'll be to starboard, but I'm hoping to avoid making extra holes and mistakes, and we're shallow coastal so the boat has found its way to the bottom once or twice (hoping to avoid that in the future with this new technology.

Ideas?

    I put mine right where that metal I beam is below on your STBD side..

    took the boat from basically NYC to cape cod and back this past summer, no issues at all.. I HATE drilling holes anywhere under the waterline..

    Yeah, I already have both of those exact products, I've just been hesitating on the placement. Don't want to get it wrong.

    I put the exact same transducer on last year.  I have two engines so mounted mine about 10in to the right of the drain.  Works well.  There are a ton of videos and sites out there that talk about height also.  It is designed to basically skim along.  You don't want it plowing or riding too high.  Dont worry about interference from the B3's or your other transducer.  The biggest problem is that now you can see the fish down there laughing at you while they take your bait.

    If your other transducer is being used still, you definitely could have an issue with intersecting beams.  I've had this issue in the past, and had to unplug my factory depth finder, in order for my fishfinder transducer to work properly...

    @lakebum the Simrad totalscan and any of the depth finders i have seen so far on Rinker are different frequencies.  So no issues.

    I'm stuck where I'm pretty sure the whole back of the boat is underwater when I'm planing - it's a 280 after all. So how high/low do I mount it from the edge?

    You should get the thought of this working while on plane out of your head.  Doesn't really work at 22mph and above.  Just worry about it being at the right angle while going 12 mph and slower.

    I have three Simrad displays and a Downscan, TotalScan and Active Imaging transducers. Which one should I install? @davidbrooks any pics of your install?

    I have the Garmin transducer and it is primarily downscan and sidescan.  I don't really use the sidescan though.  I flip back and forth between the traditional frequencies and the higher ones for the better resolution.  They both have their pros and cons.  I also get the water temp off of mine and that is a very popular number.  If i could add to my setup i would love to add in forward scan.  Video would be a waste of money where i boat as the water just isn't clear.  I didn't take a pic.  I just followed the directions that came with it on mounting.

    Thanks! I’m excited about water temp too. I don’t fish so really the water temp and depth are my main motivations to install the transducer.
