The only leaves starting to turn here are cottonwood tree's. Still in the 80's for the next 6 days.

We’re low to mid 60’s for a high the next 14 days, with some rain on 10 of those days.  Pretty discouraging.

Made the trip up to Sparrow Lake today but have missed the best colours by a few days. Spending the night at lock 42.

@YYZRC @Grahamu So my boat is stuck until Wednesday maybe at Port Severn .  Now the Marine railroad is saying COVID 19 Infection of staff is the reason why they can not bring big boats over.

So I left the boat at Rawlys at a reduced rate until we can bring it back and the railroad is open.  Thought I would bring the discussion here and away from pic of the day.

Maybe the title of this thread should read “how many Rinker cruisers formerly on Lake Simcoe”?!

Thanks for the update, this will really throw a monkey wrench into our Georgian Bay cruising plans if it's not fixed in a couple of weeks. Do you know how many boats are holding?

Funny one @YYZRC I just got it back today!  @Grahamu But they still have not fixed the problem as if one person is off the Marine Railroad is down to small boats.  Also, Twitter/ Facebook posts from them are not correct as they said today they were not moving big boats but they were today..
But made it today as the last boat threw the lock to Simcoe and Railroad bridge.  Funny thing again zero traffic after.... which is weird.

Boat back up was 20 on site and 30 in Orillia.  They got most of that done today.  Good news my lock pass still has 5 days left!! :)

@SimcoeRinker400 after your ordeal, I'm out on the locks for this season.  I'd rather just trailer my dinghy over to Simcoe and spend a night at Friday Harbour.

@SimcoeRinker400, thanks for the update, wife read on Facebook that big boats had started to move thru but TSW asking for boats not to come until they clear the backlog. Hopefully the trained staff are all over COVID for a few months

@Grahamu I asked going through no one was sick which was funny!  It is only if buddy shows up to work or not.  Also, you need to buy letters/logos and update your old stickers.  Did you get a chance to see Reg's boat turned out really good.  :)

@SimcoeRinker400, meant to go look at his boat but the weather was so good left early and anchored out Saturday. If I decide to change the logos it won't be until the end of the year as we some important decisions to make at that time. Hoping too go through Big Chute late Friday or Saturday morning, waiting for a return call from  them re present situation.

Never got a call from them, but found this link. I should get thru on Saturday as I don't have to hang over the back of the car.

Does it matter that you are over 11.5’ beam @Grahamu ? Or is hanging over the end of the car only necessary for pod drives?

@Grahamu they do not take boats over 11.5 wide or over 30 ft on the weekends.  Only big boats during the week.  Trust me I know.

@SimcoeRinker400 @YYZRCwe were the first boat on the railway today. They clarified the restriction. Length is not a problem, beam at the waterline, not the deck, max 11.5 ft. If you have I/Os your good to go.

Interesting. I’m anchored at Chimney Bay today; will jump in the water and measure my beam at waterline! It’s gotta be less than 11.5.

@Grahamu do you think it would matter that I have the dinghy on the back?

@YYZRC, I have a dinghy on the platform no problem. I was hoping to be where you are today had to detour to  Bayport.
  • GrahamuGrahamu Member Posts: 921 ✭✭✭
They only use the side cradles on the weekend so your dinghy cannot be wider than your boat,

Everything fine, wife has been having dental procedures and it's started to act up. Dentist sent a prescription to Gaurdian Drugs so all good, hopefully it will be Ok for the next 2 weeks.

@SimcoeRinker400 I am not going to make it to Simcoe this summer. The Admiral got a new job so no extra time to make the trip.

I am going to take the first mate to Big Chute this week - booked Wednesday night at Rawley and Thursday night at Big Chute Marina. Hopefully no issues at the locks…  :#
