What’s best to remove the scum below the waterline?

    I bought a hull cleaner on clearance at Target a few years ago and it works great. Do a 50/50 mix of muriatic acid and water, it’s probably close to the same as any other hull cleaner out there.

    @YYZRC , did that hose come with your kit or did you make it? It seems larger in diameter than what came with mine.

    That’s the one that came with it - I think it’s 5/8”

    I use Starbrite Hull Cleaner or Capt Phab (Fab) Hull Cleaner.  Both work well.

    I use Slimy Grimey with hot water in a pump up sprayer. The scum just melts off. Be sure to was the trailer afterwards no matter what product you use. 

    You can also use toilet bowl cleaner mixed 50/50 with peroxide. I have done this in the past with success.

    I'll second (or third) the muratic acid with 50/50 water.  But, add the acid to the water, not the other way.  Put in a throw away spray bottle and use a soft brush to wipe evenly.  After a few minutes, just wash off.  Definitely need a mask and gloves.

    I’m gonna try this stuff, mainly because it’s gel. If no good, acid it is.

    I have tried that in the past and it didn't work at all. I use Zing or On & off.

    A gallon of pre-diluted "green" muriatic acid costs $10 at any hardware store.  It's enough for you and every boating friend you have for 2-3 years.  Apply full strength.

    Muriatic acid discolors the paint a little, but doesn't remove it.  Use sparingly ... you don't need much.

    I did like the fact that it was a gel and should stay put but it just didn't wok as it was intended to.

    If you have the proper bottom paint, you should only need the acid at the waterline. I usually am able to pressure wash most of the bottom without acid.

    I tried the Starbrite stuff don't waste the money on it. Not all toilet bowl cleaners have enough stuff it them. The works toilet bowl cleaner does work. But acid is fastest. Gloves, mask, eyes.

    Well I love the Starbrite. It worked awesome. Zero effort. Spray on and hose off. A wipe made it go further. 



    I tried 50/50 acid and it did nothing on the hull staining so I shined up the props with it. 



    Got started on the cover as well.
