Winterizing issues

So I need to get winterized for the winter but I can't remember which way to turn it?

Just kidding and I did post this several years ago. I had to flip through a lot of posts, years of them and I think I have enough posts to publish a how to book on keeping an express cruiser going- including pulling the motor out.  ..what a hoot!
Almost that holiday time and will be the first to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving holiday- I'm sure we all have a lot to be thankful for and looking forward to the new year!

    You know, I had a really tough time getting that plug out two years ago (it can be a bit more difficult on a raft, not as much leverage).  I guess I had put it on too tight.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!  Today is the first Friday I've worked since May.  It sucks!!

    So @Alswagg all the components of a dock or pier come up? I guess the ice could pull up or shear anything put into the ground...different life there for sure.

    Our pilings stay in (I guess there’re in deep enough) but the floating docks come out.

    The winter time is really the time to boat in FL for just cruising around on the river...no one out ....it's really nice and days clear and warm to cool...

    At my club we remove everything but the pilings and sometimes they get sheared off and we have to have them replaced at a huge cost. We hire a crane to lift the docks and put them in our parking lot.

    Any floating docks at Marina's here are removed also and most lakefront docks either pulled or cantilevered up. Wind can blow the ice 20 feet high in spring.

    That's just a stock pic I swiped from the internet but they're all over the place here. Just a boat trailer winch on the other end. Some of the bigger more elaborate ones have a power winch and counter balances.

    So there is a permanent mount the at the bottom to hook it all back up? Sounds like a goid way to make a living?

    Nope, everything just stays in place. If a big storm is anticipated or in fall the dock owner simply cranks the winch to lift it up and locks it in place. Stays like that until spring.

    So it's not bad enough you can only boat 6 months but ya got to pull all that crap out of the water and worry about everything freezing.  Hmmmm.

    Ras you are right. I openly admit for being dumb for staying in this climate. Keep telling the admiral we are moving south by 50 or bust!!!!

    I'm just poking...folks up north are used to there life and same here. That picture is awesome @Alswagg. Lived in Central ND for a few years- as a kid and had an old snowmobile....it was bottom barrel , fox track or something? It was fun though as an 11 year old heading across wheat stubble on a 700 acre farm and beyond...then on horseback too.  And under normal for me I probably don't use mine "only 6 months a year" if I added it all up but I'm really focusing on getting more regular. Have all new deck interior ready to go back in.

    Now that you mention it, we did have a pretty bumpy flight, had to hold on to the drinks for a while. Guess she's just learning!
