Galvanic isolator on 310FV

Pat310Pat310 ✭✭✭
I know a few of you guys have or had 2000 - 2003 310 FVs. After a long season (early April to Dec 1), my zincs were in pretty bad shape when it came out.  Went searching for the galvanic isolator to test only to find there is none on my boat. Ordered a Pro Safe 60 amp fail safe and was wondering if anyone has done this installation before. Looking for advise on location and wiring

This was explained to me somewhere on here I think by Al. I think there is one of some sort but it looks nothing like the one you purchased so you may have overlooked it.

    I can't find the post.

The one you purchased is good and you apparently have an issue so it's needed.

There is a procedure to test the isolator, and you don't need to find the isolator.  All of this is new to me, as I discovered the isolator literally this morning.

If my '03 342 had one, I never found it.  Here's the one from my '07 370.

  • Are you sure it doesn't have one?  I'm not sure when Rinker started installing them.  I've had my '07 since 2013, and I never saw the galvanic isolator until this morning.

Pulled electrical panel, not back there. Traced from plug inlets to panel and nothing. Straight into the panel

@Aqua_Aura I seem to recall the post you speak of but if it was Al it was probably deleted. I think the photo in that post showed round cylinder isolators. @LaRea looks like yours is behind the AC electric panel. That’s where I plan to put mine. Just wasn’t sure if it had enough ventilation. Guess its ok to put it there 🤷‍♂️

The one that you’re talking about looks like a metal diode. I’ll see if I have a picture.

  • Correct -- behind the breaker panel.  I don't think the isolator generates heat.

The green wires disappear into the traditional Rinker "pot o' spaghetti" wiring mess, so I haven't tried to trace them.  I'll be back in there next weekend to replace the panel bulbs with LEDs, so maybe I'll learn more when I stir the pot.

I know I had a pic of it from my 242 but can’t seem to find it. It looks something like this.

@aero3113 do you recall where it was mounted?  Did it attach directly to AC ground strip or inline?
  • aero3113aero3113 ✭✭✭✭✭
@Pat310 , I want to say it was inline. I found it behind the breaker panel on my 242.

Going to boat Wednesday I’ll check again among the spaghetti behind the panel. Thanks for all the input guys

Not noticed one in mine. @aero3113 that looks like the hatch override lug/diode.

@Ian the one that’s in the boat I believe will have two terminal ends that look like the one on the left.

In the panel, there are a few diodes on the ground coming from the shore power. That acts as the isolator.

    In and done!
  • That's nice workmanship.  Me like.

Look at all those Anderson PowerPole connectors ...  :)

Thanks @LaRea , I checked each of them while I had it open.

Wow, would not know where to start on our 05/270. This is a "bar" maybe 12" mounted to the transom...mine has that. It scares me so I leave it alone!

It’s behind the 120v panel in your cabin. The bar that you are referring to is the 12vdc negative.
