Route Apps

kordokordo Member Posts: 247 ✭✭
Anyone have a recommendation for an app that will let me create a route and then transfer it to my chartplotter?  I used Raymarine Voyage Planner in the past but it will no longer work on my new laptop.  I would prefer a route creation app that I can use on my laptop but I can work with one on my cellphone also.  Thanks.

Navionics will do both. App and on PC.
Can also be done with Google Earth but then a few more steps to convert to a chart plotter file.

Willhound, can you send me the link for the PC version.  I could not find it.  Thanks.

Navionics doesn't have an app for windows. They have web chart viewer where you can create routes  and see ones you've saved. They have apps for iPad and android devices. Saved data auto synchs with annual subscriptions. I talked to Navionics tech support this weekend while trying to find something other than web viewer for laptop.

I have yet to find a good app for route planning on a laptop.  I tried Voyage Planner back in the day, and it was awful.  I have asked this question on another forum of long-distance cruisers, and got no useful answers.

I don’t understand why the Navionics iPad app is so great in all respects but especially for autorouting and yet the Navionics on the chartplotter is pure garbage. If it wasn’t for the insufficient brightness of an iPad, I would never have spent the $$ on a chartplotter.

@YYZRC , I used my iPad 100% of the time and never have an issue with insufficient brightness. I also put an anti glare screen protector on it.

It’s only 10% of the time that it’s bad, but when it’s bad it’s bad.

Not an "app" per se, but a web based planner. https://webapp.navionics.com/#boating@6&key=w~~mGnageN

I want to remove my old Lowrance and install an I pad dock but can’t get myself to do it because I will lose the DSC function for my VHF.

    Has anybody tried OpenCPN?  https://opencpn.org/

I played with it for a few minutes this morning using free charts downloaded from NOAA.  Seems worthy of further investigation.  I'll have to see what it takes to move routes to/from my Raymarine MFD.

If you decide to do it, let me know. I think I still have the starboard plate + clamp setup that I made for my 330. Can send it to you.

    Hey @oscar1

I did the Sleipner SE50 on both the 330 and 350. More than enough for my area of boating (no strong currents).
