Non Cellular And Non GPS ipad

When I went to update class for the airplane I manage, the school gave me a new iPad. It’s non cellular so it doesn’t have GPS. My old iPad needs to be replaced since I can’t update to the newest Navionics available. I can use the new ipad with a GPS puck but curious if anyone has used their phone as a hotspot to connect to an iPad for GPS?

    I ended up buying this for $45. Don’t have to worry about data charges and charging a battery for the receiver.

    I have heard good things about bad elf. Let us know how it works out. Does it have a pass through so you can charge the iPad while using the GPS dongle?

    @YYZRC , it does have a pass through to charge. I hope it works with my newer iPad, it’s not listed. If not I will have to use a stand alone Bad Elf unit.

    I saw that one also @oscar1 . How do you like it? It will be between the Bad Elf or Garmin if the plug-in one doesn’t work.

    It connected to the iPad by bluetooth very quick and so-far it never lost signal during my last trips, but it needs his own power supplier.

    One of the pilots I work with let me barrow his Bad Elf Pro + GPS receiver. It seems to work great at the house, will test it out this weekend. It’s probably a little much for what I need but fun to try. This unit is $300.
