Is it worth it!?

I really have a pile of shite engine in this boat.
I turned the ignition key and heard a god awful screeching noise from the engine like something is stuck. I did record it but can't see how to attach videos on here. Any ideas?

Did you recently change the impeller? Could be the belt slipping because the impeller is wound the wrong way. If so, easy fix, just put a wrench on the pulley and turn it 90 degrees in the direction of the belt rotation.

You can upload to YouTube or Google drive and then link it here. If you use Android you can share directly from the video and create a link as well.

What engine do you have on the boat?   I'm assuming a gas GM/Chevy engine being in a 250.  Other than issues from lack of maintenance, water intrusion from old risers/manifolds and obviously age,  the only real gripe about them is being thirsty for fuel.

Try to put a socket on the crank pulley and spin the engine, could be something simple as a starter issue

It’s doesn’t sound internal. I would replace the starter and see how it sounds.

Check you have not lost your power steering fluid.

Didn’t watch video but screech is usually a belt. Alternator frozen?

Or a fresh water pump...got to see what's moving and what's not...fresh or raw water cooled?
