Question around life time of Volvo 8.1 GXi engine and sterndrive volvo penta

Hello everyone,

We have a rinker 390 2006, this year we will be around 900 hours on our two engines and the sterndrive volvo penta duoprop are original . We have always taken care of it with the required maintenance. Just curious about your thoughts regarding the lifetime of these engines before it might be time for a rebuilt and same questions for sterndrives.   We would like to keep the boat for at least another 5 years  and were just curious about it.  Thanks in advance for your perspectives.

I dont run my boats around the great loop or 250 miles round trip into the open ocean so my thoughts are different than someone who would need reliability above all else.

If these guys are in salt water and raw water cooled, I'd be watching them closely.

If they are in fresh water or closed loop cooled id say you still have plenty of life left in them. This assumes you've kept, and plan to keep up with, all your regular maintenance.   This maintenence also includes any manifolds/elbows or exhaust joints that see raw water.

If they run well, dont use any oil, have any major leaks, the temp and oil pressure is good...keep enjoying her.

5 seasons in Canada might be close to one season in Florida lol

Read somewhere that with reasonable maintenance 2000 hrs is reasonable
