Hunting usually means it is running lean. I would check the anti-diesel solenoid to start. Are you getting 120 VAC out of it?

Ok. That is good news. Sounds like you are running lean. The anti-diesel solenoid can get stuck/fail. That will limit fuel flow. The fuel pump does have a filter on the input I believe (5e does), worth checking. Plus check the electric connection at the fuel pump too, mine was bad.

The anti-diesel solenoid is usually easy to clean, if it has failed wont help. You can order thru www.partsfortechs.com

BD, I think you have become the resident Kohler expert - I'm guessing experience not necessarily gained by choice!

MT: took me 11 years to get mine to finally run. many hours in the hole with that thing.  B)

BD is working on his next profession when he retires! :)  I'll add that I agree it sounds fuel related and running lean.  If it actually shut down on load, then I'd say possibly one of the coils (which is an issue I've had).  Keep us informed.

Wohooo!  I got one right!  Good to hear you've got it solved!  On my genny that one got the best of me and I had to have a mechanic help (didn't help it was mid summer & I wanted the genny working immediately)
