Power steering

so I noticed power steering is little tight on my boat. It loosens up some but then get tight again.
i know there is one pump running a single ram that turns two drives vs one I had on my old boat.
any tricks or ways to improve this.
what to look at?

if you have a cable from steering wheel to ram, that maybe hanging up. mine is a 2005 so I replaced cable now it's like new. I think when they go bad it's either tight (frayed cable) or sloppy loose ( bad teeth or loose connection on rack end).

It could be the ram itself.  I am on my second one.

I thought that was it on mine so I got a new one didn't change anything so I have a spare now. if it's a rack & pinion steer it can be cable or rack problem, check that first then go to ram. you can disconnect the cable from ram ( usually 1 pin at far end of ram and the big nut that holds it to close end of ram) and see if it's easier to move, if not.... cable... if it is easier...ram.
