The 2x4 is a must. Make sure you grease the shaft before putting the props back on.

I pulled my props off over the weekend. Using a 4 foot 2x3 everything worked fine and had no problems. The bearings were clogged with old dry lube and took a wire brush and cleaned the brass bearing until they looked brand new. Polished the props and they too look shiny. Know I have to clean the shaft removing the old lube and adding new lube. BTW; I used a pipe wrench to remove the 2 3/4" nut securing the inner prop. I just cover it with duct tape before using the pipe wrench. No problems.

If you are going to get your props tuned up be careful. Mine were so sharp they could cut a manatee clean in half and not lose 1 rpm.

Tried to pull mine off this weekend and was unsuccessful. I have a 2003 342 and the prop shaft isn't drilled for an anode. So I bought new prop nuts that go over the prop shaft and anode attaches to the prop nut. I couldn't get the old prop nuts off. The one thing I will recommend is to also bring with you a 3 ft piece of 2x4 to put in between the props and the drive. You need something to keep the props from spinning. I am going to get a cheater bar on my socket wrench and try it again next weekend. Don't like letting nuts win.:)

@davidbrooks, I had to use cheater bar to get mine off. There are spec's on torque how much to tighten them.

Bayrunner, how are you going to torque the large nut to the proper torque with a pipe wrench.

@randy56 Yep. As usual it was the one tool I didn't put in the back of the car. That is the frustrating part of having a boat in a marina. I can't tow my garage over there. I was going to try it again with a cheater bar the next time.

U can put outdrive in gear to stop it from spinning

I'll torque it very carefully. The nut toke very little pressure the remove. I did not have to muscle it off. I will wait for the correct to arrive before I put them back on. But I bet I still could use the pipe wrench and get pretty darn close to torque it close to measurement.

I think when you place the 2"x3" wood between the blades it looks like this. I will double check and thanks for the update.

Don't put the 2x4 between the blades. Put it between one blade and the cavitation plate.

I ordered a manual from boats.net using the serial number of my drive, plugged into the Mercury Parts finder site to get the proper manual. It looks like @califco has a PDF version.

I have a general Mecruiser manual that came with my boat, the picture of the blades is a screen shot from a website, don't remember where I got it from, I had it save in my phone. Here is a manual that may be helpful, page 3D43 talks about bravo 3 propeller installation.
