Running hot a muffs

Got the boat started today and let the engine warm up to operating temp.  Except it went further that that...Like 200 before I shut it down.

Water was coming out of the exhaust on the out drive nice and strong it seemed.  Impeller probably has 40 or 50 hours since I replaced it last.

Could it just be the muffs causing this?

    Do you have a winterizing bucket and short hose? I would fill a 5 gallon bucket and place it on the swim platform and start it up with **** attached to hose and bucket. The pump should empty that in less than a minute if working ok. If that checks out, check the thermostat to see if it is stuck. (remove and put it in a pan of boiling water and check for movement.     No I don't have a bucket like that, but could fab something up.

    If the impeller is good those muffs should suck right to the drive and the water should not spray of the muffs,some times you need to Crack the thoddle a bit (1200)to cool it.having the same problem today on port motor,

    Used the bucket to winterize @pault1216 is right 30 sec.

    You cannot always get enough water through a hose, to keep it cool, I bet you a cold one once it's in the water it is fine.
