Noisy 342

I have a friend who is looking to purchase a 342 that has 8.1s and v-drives.  He stated that the exhaust exits thru the hull and there are no mufflers.  He was concerned about the boat being noisy when running.  Does anyone have experience with this configuration and do you notice a difference in noise while running?  Any way to quiet the noise?

Most big boats if not all are not loud unless you have thru hull
    water will baffle the noise

Al - This one has the exhaust exiting out the bottom.  Can mufflers be added?

Diesels I get.  But haven't many (any) Rinkers around here with anything but outdrives.

I've seen a couple of V drive 342's on Yachtworld in the last year. One was in Michigan and one is on Yachtworld now in Maryland. Interesting set ups. There was a write up on Boattest around 2003 or 2004 comparing a V drive 342 to a Bravo 3 342. Of course lots of differences in maintenance, costs, etc... but the most interesting thing I saw was the B3's got around 30% better fuel economy.

Going to sound exactly like a Sundancer with side exhaust V drives. I think they sound great personally. The way a V-8 should sound. I wouldn't say they're crazy loud like a douches with the Fountains and such lol

I dont like loud boats at all, my ideal engine is a 4 stroke outboard, and several of our dock mates have V drive Sundancers and I dont find them to be too loud or offensive at all.
