2003 5.0 MPI engine flooding/backfiring??

    What did the mechanic mean by 'destroyed spark plugs?'  With the MPI I would think it would still start/run, badly, but run. Guess I would have tore the engines down to understand the issue. Replacing is $$$!

    Thanks @jcc2823 I just had the same thing going on last weekend on my 2003 5.0 MPI.....I was really thinking it was in need of a tune-up with Cap, rotor, wires, plugs etc....  It finally did start and would restart after it was warmed up.  But now every time it happens i am going to think i need new engines.

    He said the spark plugs were basically burned up/descintigraded.

    Has to be detonation or pre-ignition to destroy spark plugs .two culprit ignition or fuel.

    Or could be the wrong plugs, if the plugs are too long the top of the pistons will destroy them.

    I was just adding to your list of things that can damage a spark plug.

    No problem just that in the beginning of the tread it was mentioned that two cylinders where affected

    Yeah I asked them to make sure it had the right spark plugs in cause it had just been serviced 2 months prior, but they checked and they said they were the right plugs (this is a different company that checked the engine out than who had serviced it).
